Wire & Wood is a bluegrass and bluegrass gospel band that performs in North and Central Florida and Southeast Georgia. The band plays family friendly, traditional style, bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music.
History
Through the 1990s George Robinson and Doug Munch played in a Palatka, Florida area country band called Crosstown. That effort ended around 2000. Driven by a powerful love of bluegrass music they kicked the idea of starting a bluegrass band around for a few years. Finally, in the spring of 2005 George (mandolin) and Doug (dobro) were joined by Bobby Huntley (guitar) and Doc Jones (banjo) and Wire & Wood was born. They soon added Kevin Perry (fiddle) and Platt Drew (bass). Phillip Scranton replaced Platt on bass and vocals. In the summer of 2008 Doc departed the band, Wayne Loveday joined on mandolin, and George moved to banjo. In the fall of 2009 Phillip left the band to pursue solo interests.
Influences
Each of the members have their own influences but overall the band cites Larry Sparks, IIIrd Tyme Out, Doyle Lawson, and others.
Wire & Wood performs at numerous churches, festivals, fairs, and charitable events and is also available for private events.
